Barriers to electricity generation development survey 2025

The Electricity Authority Te Mana Hiko (the Authority) is intent on supporting increased investment in electricity generation to help meet the demands of New Zealanders into the future.

As part of our work, we are inviting developers to complete this short survey on what barriers exist to electricity generation developments. We want to hear from those who have progressed new generation developments to completion, are mid-development, and have had plans but cancelled them.

The insights captured through this survey will build on the more comprehensive generation investment surveys we ran in 2022 and 2023, and subsequent discussions with participants.

We will use the results of this survey to help identify any gaps in our understanding of barriers to new generation and help inform and prioritise our ongoing work to strengthen security of supply.

The high-level survey findings will be published on the Authority website. Data will be aggregated and any written responses we publish will be anonymised. Please indicate if any written responses should be kept confidential.

The Authority may be requested to release the information we collect under the Official Information Act. The Authority needs to consider each request on a case-by-case basis. If the Authority receives a request, staff will endeavour to consult with you before the Authority makes a final decision as to whether to release any of the information.
